MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Marion Police arrested a Cedar Rapids man after he was accused of breaking into a woman’s home and attacking the responding officers. Jermaine Blackcloud was in custody Sunday, accused of first-degree burglary and four counts of assaulting an officer. According to a criminal complaint, on July 4, Blackcloud broke through a basement window to enter a home on Pheasant Ridge Court in Marion. Once inside, the complaint says he armed himself with a knife. The resident escaped through the front door and got help from her neighbors. When police arrived, Blackcloud reportedly had self-inflicted cuts on his arms from the knife. Officers went to assist and Blackcloud allegedly kicked one officer and spit on all three.
WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Waterloo Police say there were no injuries at a house fire Sunday night. It’s unclear what caused the fire. Waterloo firefighters were called to the 400 block of Bratnober Street at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Video from a viewer shows crews responding at the home, where they found a fire on the first floor. KCRG confirmed with police that there was no one home at the time of the fire.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Cedar Rapids man faces multiple felony charges after he reportedly broke into a home on the 6700 block of Devonshire Drive on the Northeast side on Friday. Adrian Pereira, 32, is charged with first-degree burglary while possessing a dangerous weapon, trafficking stolen weapons, and carrying a dangerous weapon as a person ineligible to do so. The criminal complaint states Pereira took multiple items during the burglary, including clothing and a stolen handgun.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – GasBuddy is reporting the average price of regular gas in Iowa is $3.50 per gallon Monday. That’s 2 cents higher than last week, 33 cents lower than a month ago and 55 cents higher than a year ago. Diesel is down 12 cents from last week at $4.76 per gallon. Experts at GasBuddy say this Independence Day had the third-highest gas prices on record with a national average of $3.74 per gallon. “Continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian refinery infrastructure have forced Russia to shift from fuel exporter to importer, tightening global supplies and putting upward pressure on crack spreads — explaining why pump prices haven’t fallen as sharply as oil prices might suggest,“ GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said in a press release. “Until the refining supply picture improves, significant further drops at the pump may be limited.”
