Social Media Update
As noted before, if anything is inappropriately named, it’s what we call “social media”–because typically it’s anything but polite and social. But it is a part of many people’s lives.
The folks at casinoalpha.com have done some research, and they say the most popular app in Iowa according to total online mentions this year is X, formerly known as Twitter…nearly doubling its closest competitor. This research includes any app you have on your smartphone, which is why Netflix comes up second among Iowans…with Instagram third and YouTube fourth. TikTok is next, with Facebook sixth. Apparently Iowans also find their apps for eBay and Amazon popular, as those come in next.
Iowans are in step with the nation, according to this survey. Across America, Twitter/X is tops, with the YouTube app next, followed by Netflix, TikTok and Facebook.
A different study released yesterday by a web hosting provider, Hostinger, measured the top five most Googled social media platforms in Iowa. In that measure, Facebook topped the list, followed by YouTube, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Pinterest.
These folks claim that among Iowans, Facebook is searched for more than 1.6 million times a month, with YouTube at 1.3 million.
What’s the takeaway? There is no clear favorite platform, which is why businesses like KXEL have to post on all of them…to reach all of you. And, judging from the volume of searches and posts, it appears we have way too much time on our hands.
