Two Different Worlds

Regardless of who wins the November presidential election, our nation is in for even worse times in 2025.

That’s because the two sides, Republican and Democrat, are so polarized and diametrically opposed to one another, that neither will accept the results in November or play nicely with one another come Inauguration Day and beyond.

For all the talk of a uniparty in Washington…and there’s plenty of support for that among current lawmakers…and despite a fundamental fact that the different parties should hold different views…the split is wider than ever, not just between Rs and Ds, and within each of those two major political parties.

Even worse than that, I’m concerned that so many on each side cannot even conceive of the other side winning…actually, they cannot conceive of anyone supporting a candidate other than their own choice, never mind conceiving of the other side winning.

Those on the right…even if they are not big fans of Donald Trump…cannot imagine anyone voting for Joe Biden, who they see as either a puppet, a dementia patient, a crime family boss, or a threat to democracy. It’s so clear and apparent in their minds.

Meanwhile, those on the left…even if they are not big fans of Joe Biden…are stunned that Donald Trump has any supporters at all in the wake of what they call an insurrection, traitorous actions regarding foreign nations, predatory sexual abuse, and of course, that he’s a threat to democracy.

And that’s why you find it hard to have a conversation with folks on either side about the election or issues, because they are hunkered down so tightly, surrounding themselves with conversation and information that supports their world view to the exclusion of all else.

And that’s why no matter who wins, or under what circumstances, nothing will be “fixed” after the next election. I fear a rockier road lies past January 20, 2025.
