The union representing Iowa City school bus drivers says its members approved a new contract that avoids a strike with the district just as the school year is to begin. The new three year contract includes pay raises starting with an eight and a half percent across the board increase.

A new report warns an historic building in Dubuque poses a significant danger to the public. The city closed off streets surrounding the Dubuque Brewing and Malting Company building on Jackson Street. The city issued letters to people who live and work around it. The letters say their properties are within a fall zone if the building were to collapse. The city gave the owner of the building 14 days to submit a plan to address structural concerns. They issued an additional 60 days to follow through with the plan.

Iowa State University says one of its football players has left the program. He’s accused of wagering on his team’s games, including one bet against the Cyclones. Isaiah Lee started all 12 games last season. He is among the 15 former and current athletes from Iowa and Iowa State charged in the state’s investigation into illegal sports betting. Prosecutors charged Lee with tampering with records. Court documents say he disguised his identity to place online sports wagers. Lee is accused of making 115 bets for more than $800 on the FanDuel mobile app. Among them were 12 on Iowa State football games.

Mercy Iowa City investor Preston Hollow Community Capital is calling for a financial and legal review after the University of Iowa announced its plans to acquire the hospital. Preston Hollow said it invested over $41 million into Mercy Iowa City back in 2018. Now, the University of Iowa is expected to buy the hospital for $20 million. Mercy Iowa City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as part of the plan to have the University acquire all facilities and assets of the hospital. In a statement, Preston Hollow says the review is in line with U.S. bankruptcy code.
