IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Three University of Iowa students were shot during a fight at the Ped Mall in Iowa City early Sunday morning, according to a statement from the University President. Iowa City Police says its officers were responding to a report of a fight at 1:46 a.m. Sunday when gunshots rang out. Police say five people were injured, one in critical condition, and no one has been arrested. The Iowa City Police Department has released several photos of persons of interest tied to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Iowa City Police Department. The Ped Mall was closed because of the shooting but reopened around noon Sunday. The Ped Mall is intertwined with the University of Iowa campus and is a popular spot for students to gather on nights and weekends.

DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Dubuque County Sheriff said one person is dead after a vehicle pursuit Saturday. The Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations, as well as the driver being known to have an outstanding warrant for their arrest, around 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Deputies said the driver refused to pull over and a slow-speed pursuit ensued through the northern parts of Dubuque County. Authorities used stop sticks to stop the vehicle in the area of Tollgate Road and Ridge Road in Dubuque County. After approaching the vehicle, deputies found the driver with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies as well as EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures; however, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said the incident is under investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids Police said one juvenile is injured and another juvenile is in custody after a stabbing Friday night. Police said officers responded to a call of a stabbing near the intersection of 1st Ave NW and 16th St. NW around 9:50 Friday night and were flagged down near 1st Ave W and 6th St. SW. Authorities said a 17-year-old male, reportedly involved in the incident, was located in a vehicle suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. He was treated on scene and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Shortly afterward, police said a 17-year-old juvenile male matching witness descriptions was found in the 1200 block of Ellis Blvd. NW. He was interviewed and taken to juvenile detention. That juvenile is charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The incident is under investigation.

TOLEDO, Iowa (KCRG) – A portion of US 63 will close starting Monday for six months to add new pavement. The closure between northern Toledo and just south of Highway 96 is scheduled from April 20 through mid-October. During the closure, drivers should follow the marked detour using U.S. 30, Iowa 21, Iowa 8, and U.S. 63 to bypass the work zone. Detour routes are subject to change throughout the construction season. Drivers can check the detour route on 511ia.org before traveling.
