The Mississippi River is still projected to reach a crest tomorrow afternoon in areas from Lansing to Guttenberg, with crests early Saturday morning in Dubuque and Saturday afternoon in Bellevue.

Admiral Sheehy Drive in Dubuque is closed between E. 16th Street and the Dubuque Ice Arena entrance for flood management until further notice. This closure does not affect access to Q Casino. Mud Lake Campground north of Dubuque is flooding and camp reservations are unavailable. Nearby Finley’s Landing and Massey Marina are all closed.

Just to the north of McGregor, officials are closing Highway 76 that runs along the Mississippi River near Marquette. That’s the route many drivers are taking after the Black Hawk Bridge over the Mississippi River in Lansing shut down due to flooding. The shutdown affects an area north of Effigy Mounds. With the closure of Highway 76, people must drive 45 minutes north to La Crosse to get across the Mississippi River.

A man who drove loads of ice methamphetamine from California to Cedar Rapids for a drug trafficking organization was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison. 53-year-old Albert Henry Bailey from Cedar Rapids was caught on a federal wiretap in late 2021 and early 2022 when he was a driver for a group of individuals who were purchasing between 30 and 60 pounds of ice methamphetamine in California and selling it in eastern Iowa. There is no chance for parole in the federal justice system.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist John Pappajohn has died the age of 94. His name graces the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business building and the entreprenuerial center. He graduated from the UI in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Pappajohn has been involved in more than 100 startups. He donated a significant gift to the University in 1992 to build the John Pappajohn business building.
