DAVENPORT, Iowa (KCRG) – A former president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 617 Union was sentenced to prison on Tuesday for stealing union funds for his own personal use. According to court records, an investigation revealed that 53-year-old James Boatman set up a credit card in the Union’s name without authorization. From May 2017 to August 2019 Boatman reportedly used the card for personal expenses, including vacations to Florida, large repairs on his personal vehicle, and to pay for attorney representation for an unrelated matter. He also wrote checks from eh Union funds to cover personal expenses and pay himself for times he claimed he was conducting Union business. Boatman was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison. He agreed to pay $74,231.34 in restitution to the Union.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Senator Tim Scott is set to stop in Iowa Friday and Saturday as part of his Faith in America Tour. It comes after he launched an exploratory committee to determine whether he should run for president in 2024. In a news release, Scott said he’s planning to meet privately with local pastors and young Republicans in Des Moines on Friday. On Saturday, he is expected to join Congressman Zach Nunn and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird to tour a farm in Cumming at 11 a.m. He will also speak at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition 2023 Spring Kickoff in Clive on Saturday at 5 p.m. Scott was in Iowa last week to meet with local pastors, and home-schooling families with Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson.

FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KCRG) – The two teens who entered pleas of guilty to charges of Murder in the First Degree in the death of Spanish teacher Nohema Graber will receive their sentences this summer. Court documents show Willard Miller will receive his sentence on July 5, and Jeremy Goodale will receive his sentence at a separate hearing on August 23. On Tuesday, both teens admitted to ambushing and killing Graber in a park in Fairfield in November 2021. As part of an agreement with Miller, prosecutors will recommend a sentence between 30 years and life in prison, with the possibility of parole. For Goodale, prosecutors said they’ll recommend a sentence between 25 years and life with the possibility of parole.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — Cedar Falls Police are warning Iowans of a scam going on affecting small businesses in Cedar Valley. They say a man is calling saying he’s a Lieutenant with the police department and is working on a counterfeit bill case. He then goes on to tell the business to take their cash and bring it to a business where the money is sent digitally to the individual. Cedar Falls Police reminds you that they won’t ask for the removal of money or personal information over the phone.
