DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Archdiocese of Dubuque announced which parishes will no longer hold weekend Mass as part of a consolidation plan that will impact thousands of Eastern Iowa Catholics. The Archdiocese will reorganize its 160 parishes into 24 pastorates beginning July 14, 2026. It’s part of a yearlong “Journey in Faith” discernment process aimed at strengthening evangelization, leadership formation and pastoral planning. Archbishop Thomas Zinkula said the consolidation is needed to reflect drops in church attendance over the years. The Archdiocese has also seen a decline in priests. The archdiocese spans 30 counties in Northeast Iowa and serves more than 180,000 Catholics. Zinkula said the archdiocese gathered input from thousands of parishioners and reviewed demographic, sacramental and financial data from every parish before finalizing decisions on the new pastorate structure and priest assignments. Under the new model, a pastorate will group parishes to work more closely together by sharing pastoral leadership, ministries and resources. Zinkula said each pastorate has been assigned a pastor and one or more parochial vicars.

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Two people reportedly stole thousands of dollars from BarTini’s Marion location. The restaurant and bar, which also has a location in Cedar Rapids, recently opened in fall 2025. According to General Manager Tara Dawson, two men walked into the store Wednesday afternoon through a door left open for the prep cooks, who were preparing to open. The employees were in the back half of the restaurant. She said according to their review of surveillance footage, they walked around the front half of the building and looked into the kitchen window, then went behind the bar and opened the cash drawer, taking “wads of cash out.” Dawson said the men stole more than $2000–money she had stocked in the drawer that morning to prepare staff. The reported theft was discovered when another manager opened the drawer and alerted Dawson. She alerted the Chamber of Commerce and got in touch with other downtown businesses, who also saw the men that day with signs saying they were selling candy for a fundraiser to attend HVAC school. Dawson said the early afternoon timing on the incident was surprising and that the team is planning to change some company practices.
