CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids police arrested a 21-year-old man Saturday night in connection to a robbery at a convenience store on the city’s northwest side. 21-year-old Russell Formanek was arrested for robbery at a the 4800 block of Johnson Ave NW. Documents show Formanek was armed with a firearm when he demanded cash from the register. After receiving the cash, he left the scene. Officers were called and located Formanek shortly after beginning their search. Documents also show Formanek used a replica firearm during the robbery. Formanek is charged with robbery in the first degree. He was taken to the Linn County Correctional Center. This is currently an ongoing investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids police and fire departments responded to a motorcycle crash at 11:14 p.m. Saturday. Documents show the incident occurred in the 1800 block of Williams Blvd SW and involved a motorcycle and a pedestrian. A 67-year-old man was struck by a motorcycle and required medical treatment. He is believed to have life-threatening injuries. According the press release the motorcycle driver was a 44-year-old man, was cited for not having a driver’s license and no proof of insurance. Additional charges are possible as the investigation is ongoing.

WALCOTT, Iowa (KWQC/KCRG) – A 35-year-old female and a 23 month-old female are both in the hospital after a single vehicle rollover near Walcott Saturday afternoon. According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to mile marker 283 on Interstate 80 at 3:23 p.m. Saturday for a one vehicle rollover. When officers arrived, a 2017 GMC Sierra pulling a camper was found in the median of Interstate 80. Officers said the GMC Sierra was driving westbound, lost control and rolled over ending up in the median of I-80. The release said the truck was driven by a 31-year-old man. A 35 year old woman and a 23 month-old female were ejected from the truck. The 31-year-old man was taken to a local hospital in Davenport. The 35-year-old female was taken by ambulance and the 23 month-old was taken by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospital. Their conditions were not made public.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa City Community School District Board of Education has hired Amy Kortemeyer as the district’s new interim superintendent, effective July 1, 2026. Kortemeyer brings more than three decades of experience in education, including several leadership roles within ICCSD. She previously served as the district’s deputy superintendent from 2021 to 2023, assistant superintendent from 2016 to 2021, and director of elementary schools in 2015. Most recently, Kortemeyer served as superintendent of the Linn-Mar Community School District. Kortemeyer has held leadership roles in both Iowa City and Linn-Mar, serving as a superintendent, district-level curriculum leader, elementary principal and a classroom teacher. She holds a superintendent’s certification and a master’s degree in elementary reading and language arts from the University of Northern Iowa, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa. As interim superintendent, Kortemeyer will work with the Board of Directors, district staff, students, families and community partners. Her role will include supporting the district’s strategic priorities and preparing for the transition to a permanent superintendent.
