CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Falls City Council on Monday voted to authorize a voluntary separation agreement with city administrator Ron Gaines. According to a city document, the agreement was offered to Gaines in June and was returned with his signature on July 7. Under the agreement, Gaines will be paid a lump sum amount equal to his current salary, which is $233,041. Gaines will also keep his health insurance benefits through the end of year. During Monday’s meeting, the Cedar Falls City Council also voted to appoint Jennifer Rodenbeck, director of finance and business operation, as acting city administrator while the city searches for replacement.
LONE TREE, Iowa (KCRG) – A city in southeastern Iowa was placed under a boil advisory until further notice. The City of Lone Tree was placed under a boil advisory on July 22. The advisory is due to maintenance being performed on the water storage tank. Residents should use bottled water or boil tap water before use, according to the Ion Environmental Services. The boil advisory will remain until further notice.
DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – A woman was sentenced to prison for distributing fentanyl that led to a death. In January 2025, 44-year-old Jessica Erickson, of Daytona Beach, Florida, pled guilty to one count of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death, according to a release. In May 2024, Erickson began distributing substances containing fentanyl to the victim. She distributed fentanyl to the victim who later died as a result of using the substance on June 15, 2024. Erickson was sentenced to fourteen years in prison and a five-year supervised release.
SHELDON, Iowa (KTIV) – State health officials have confirmed an adult living in Western Iowa has the measles. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the case on Tuesday, July 22, and is releasing the information to notify the public of potential exposure locations. “The individual is fully vaccinated and has no known link to the previous measles cases in Iowa, nor any recent travel outside the state‚” stated Iowa HHS officials in a press release. They did not provide the individual’s identity or current condition. So far in 2025, Iowa has had a total of eight confirmed measles cases, and there have been an estimated 1,309 cases across the U.S. as of Tuesday, July 15.
