IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The University of Iowa has denied an appeal from one of its fraternities to lift a temporary suspension first put into place for possible hazing. The university suspended its Alpha Delta Phi chapter after police found 56 pledges blindfolded with food thrown on them in the fraternity house’s basement last month. In its appeal to the university, the fraternity says it conducted its own third party investigation, and found two members were responsible. They later had their memberships revoked. However, the university says the information it gathered doesn’t show they were solely responsible. At least one person faces charges in connection to the incident. Court documents Joseph Gaya tried to keep police from investigating. The university says he is not a student and does not live at the fraternity house. His next hearing is set for March.
