CHARLES CITY, Iowa (KCRG) -We’re learning more about a rescue earlier this month by the Charles City Police and Floyd County Search and Rescue. On Dec. 13, before last week’s ice storm hit, authorities got a call for a dog stuck out on the Cedar River in Charles City. Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson the dog went out on the ice and did end up falling through into the frigid waters. He says when they arrived on scene they threw out a rope to try and help the dog, but the ice was too thin for officers to go out, so they called for search and rescue. With their special rescue suits, called Mustang Suits, search and rescue were able to get the Yellow Lab back on dry land. Anderson says while it was a cold day on the river, there was never a doubt that they weren’t going to try and get the dog to safety. Anderson says the dog and his owner were taken to the vet in a squad car after he was rescued. He says the owner has told the department the dog is now doing just fine.
