From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

Gas prices are about 20 cents a gallon less this Thanksgiving than last year. The current national average from the AAA is $3.06 a gallon for regular unleaded. In Iowa, it’s $2.74 a gallon…$2.77 in Cedar Rapids…$2.84 in Iowa City…and $2.91 in Dubuque.

The Save-A-Lot grocery store on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids will close by the end of 2024. For nearly 30 years, Jim McVeigh and his wife Robin have owned this Save-A-Lot store. They announced Monday they are retiring from the business. While they say the next retailer coming in will not share the same name as the grocery store, it will still sell some food. They also say both the employees and customers were kept in mind during the transition.

The head of the Dubuque Racing Association and Q Casino and Resort announced he’s resigning. Alex Dixon formally announced he’s stepping down at Tuesday’s board meeting. He said he’s pursuing another leadership opportunity out of state. Dixson has been at the helm of the DRA for the last three years.

Nurses at Unity-Point Health in Des Moines are unionizing more than 1,500 nurses. Union organizers are voicing concerns about pay, working conditions, and patient care. Right now, they are working with Teamsters in Des Moines before filing a petition with the National Labor Relations Board.

A new program in Marion is designed to make residents safer-particularly seniors and those with medical conditions. The ”File of Life” program allows people to fill out a form detailing their medical history, allergies, medications, and emergency contacts. It’s then placed in a magnetic pouch and kept on a refrigerator in the home. In the event of an emergency, first responders will have immediate access to that potentially life-saving information. The program is free of charge, and available to anyone living in the city. If you’re interested, you can pick up a kit at Marion’s Fire Station Number 1, city hall, or the public library. There’s also a form online on the city of Marion’s website.
