IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A Coralville woman was arrested on Friday after police say she altered bank deposit slips for the restaurant she worked at to try to cover losses after money she was supposed to have deposited was lost or stolen. Jillian Begg, 45, is charged with Fraudulent Practice 2nd Degree. An investigation began on Aug. 14 when the owner of Jimmy John’s, at 2569 N Dodge Street in Iowa City, found the store’s bank account to be short by more than $8,460. A criminal complaint says Begg, the manager at the restaurant, admitted to the owner and detectives that she had lost the money. Detectives said Begg had bagged up all the deposits for the month of May and put it in her car with the intent of depositing the money. However, she told law enforcement she went to a couple of stores and then went home for the night, having forgotten to deposit the money. The next morning, the bags were no longer in her vehicle. Police said Begg told them she believes the bags were stolen out of her vehicle when she stopped at one of the stores that night. While there were no signs of forced entry to her vehicle, Begg said her power locks were not working. The criminal complaint then says Begg tried to conceal the lost money by using the new daily deposits from the restaurant to cover the losses. She allegedly altered the dates of the new deposit slips and deposited the money with the fake dates.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Two of Iowa’s four congressional races are now a toss-up in who will win the seat. According to a new Cook Political Report, District One and District Three are beginning to lean away from the Republican incumbents. District One Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks is trying to hold on to her seat this November. That area includes Oskaloosa, Iowa City, and the Quad Cities. Analysts with Cook Political Report show the race is shifting from ‘leaning Republican’ to now being a ‘toss-up’ between her and challenger, Democrat Christina Bohannan. The Cook Political Report also changed the race in District Three between incumbent Zach Nunn and Lanon Baccam from ‘leaning Republican’ to being a ‘toss-up.’
