A 20-year-old man is in custody after a missing Iowa teenager was found dead in Calhoun County. The Sheriff’s Office says a 17-year-old girl was reported missing Sunday. Her body was found yesterday morning in Farnhamville. Officials have not released the name of the teenager or the man suspected in her death. They say charges are pending and there’s no threat to the public. No other details have been released.

A complaint filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics says Iowa First District Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks doesn’t reside where she says she does. And because of that, the complaint alleges that Miller-Meeks is violating House ethics rules. The complaint filed by an eastern Iowa woman claims that Miller-Meeks is registered to vote in Davenport, but is still living in Ottumwa. State law doesn’t clearly lay out voter registration guidelines if someone has two residences. Donald Sherman, a former attorney for the House Ethics Committee, says the Office of Congressional Ethics usually deals with more serious allegations of misconduct than this.

Students at Coe College are getting almost a quarter million dollars to help create Mars’ atmosphere here on Earth. The $225,000 is coming to the astrophysics department to pay for a “high-performing cluster,” a computer system that will allow students to learn more about the different atmospheres in space. Researchers say the work they do can help model the Martian atmosphere for future space exploration.

The Iowa Organic Association says the market for organic produce has increased to a hundred-million dollar industry nationwide. At a Monday Field Day, the Association led an effort to help farmers transition from standard to organic farming practices. Some of the other organic produce gaining traction among Iowa’s organic farms include corn, soy beans, and mung beans. But the Association warns organic isn’t easy, as you can’t use chemicals or feeds with hormones for several years before being considered certified organic.
