Bremer County officials are asking people to stay out of the Cedar River because of a wastewater leak. Officials discovered the discharge Wednesday night in Nashua, and they’re asking people to stay out of the water south of the Highway 346 bridge. They say no dead fish have been found yet, and they hope to have the repairs done by Friday afternoon.

Numbers from Iowa Workforce Development show the state’s unemployment rate is up slightly compared to last month. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went up slightly to 2.9 percent in August. This ended a four-month stint at 2.8 percent. The U.S. unemployment rate went down to 4.2 percent, falling to the lowest level in four months.

The latest Des Moines Register-Mediacom Iowa Poll shows more Iowa Democrats are feeling optimistic about the upcoming presidential election. Today, 80 percent of Iowa Democrats say they’re optimistic about the November presidential contest. That’s up from 45 percent in June, when Joe Biden was still expected to be the nominee. That compares to 63 percent of Republicans who say they’re optimistic, nearly similar to 62 percent in June.

A new Amazon facility opened in Cedar Falls. It’s the ninth location in Iowa. Unlike other facilities, this one is called a last-mile facility–a place where a package will take the last step to get to a customer’s door. The location also created 40 new jobs. These are only part-time positions, and the shifts are mostly overnight.

Cedar Rapids will announce today an effort to increase spending at businesses in the Czech Village and NewBo areas. The City says it’s making progress on the construction of new infrastructure including three bridges and acres of flood protection walls, levees, and roller gates. But some businesses say they’ve suffered due to the construction. Later this morning, the City and business leaders will announce what’s called “Cone Zone Cash”–an effort to better support small businesses in that area.
