IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – An attorney for two former Cyclone players charged with identity theft and tampering with records is now accusing an Iowa DCI agent of improperly investigating sports wagering by student-athletes. In a filing on Monday, Attorney Van M. Plumb accused Special Agent Brian Sanger of conducting a “warrantless search” in his investigation involving athletes and others associated with programs of both the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. Attorney Plumb accuses Special Agent Sanger of placing a “…warrantless GeoFence around a freshman/sophomore dorm at the University of Iowa to investigate underage gambling without any tips, complaints, or evidence that underage gambling was occurring…” The filing says that Sanger used the GeoFence software “without reasonable cause” to give him access to see online betting apps that were being used and that he targeted this particular facility because it had “restricted access to athletes, coaching staff, and support personnel.” Plumb then states that Singer used that data to “greenlight” continuing the investigation. In his filing, Plumb is requesting that the State makes a timely discourse to the defense of all evidence or information that prosecutors have used as part of the case.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KCRG) – A 43-year-old has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Officials say Sanchez Watson was identified by law enforcement officers after they were dispatched to an apartment complex after receiving a report of a man waving a gun and threatening others. Officials located a vehicle that was known to have left the scene and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Watson, who was identified as the driver of the vehicle, fled police in the vehicle. The vehicle eventually stopped and Waton fled on foot. Officials located a fanny pack containing a handgun with an extended magazine and marijuana near the stopped vehicle. They say that the fanny pack was known to be associated with Watson. As a previously convicted felon, Watson was not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition. After completing his prison term, he must also serve three years of supervised release.
