IOWA CITY, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — Iowa City Police are investigating reports of shots fired just after 2:00 on Christmas morning, with no injuries being reported. The University of Iowa Police Department issued a Hawk Alert about the incident that happened near H Bar in the 200 block of South Van Buren St. The Hawk Alerts indicated that police were investigating and just before 4 a.m., it was reported that multiple suspects were in custody. Police sent out a news release confirming evidence of shots fired in the area where it was first reported but did not mention suspects.  ICPD says no injuries have been reported.

ANAMOSA, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — An Alburnett man died this past weekend in a crash south of Anamosa. An Iowa State Patrol report says Richard Schmidt, 81, died after his vehicle was hit on Highway 151. The report says Schmidt stopped at the intersection of Shaw Road and Highway 151 and then he entered the highway and was hit by another vehicle driving north. Two others were hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital.

ROCKFORD, Iowa (KXEL) — A Friday night fire destroyed a landmark in Rockford. Floyd County officials posted photos to social media Saturday showing the historic old school completely covered in fire. Construction of the school was completed in February 1900. Reports of a fire at the old school building came in around 10:00 on Friday evening. The structure was completely on fire when first responders arrived.  In a Facebook Post Saturday, Floyd County Emergency Management said no one was hurt in the fire. They said the fire burned hot and fast, and crews used city water supplies and water pulled from the Shell Rock River and shuttled by tanker trucks to the scene to get the fire out.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KXEL) — One person died after a two-vehicle collision in Waterloo. It happened at the intersection of West Airline Highway and Airport Boulevard. The crash occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday and involved two vehicles, a Mercury sedan and a Dodge truck. Waterloo Fire Rescue confirmed Sunday that one of the two drivers died from injuries sustained in the crash. The man was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he died as a result of his injuries.
