WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Waterloo Sanitation Department announced Saturday it’s instituting an existing cart exchange policy. Starting June 1, a $20 Cart Adjustment Fee for residential trash and recycling cart exchanges, removals, and additional cart deliveries, after the initial delivery has been completed, will be implemented. The Sanitation Department said the fee will apply when the request is made for reasons other than normal damage or loss not caused by the household. The department said residents will not be charged for repairs or replacement of carts damaged through normal use, equipment malfunction, or causes not related to customer actions.

EVANSDALE, Iowa (KCRG) – Two people were injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday night near the ramp to southbound Interstate 380 in Evansdale, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they were called around 8:30 p.m. to the area of River Forest Road and the ramp to southbound I-380. Investigators say the motorcycle driver hit a guardrail while approaching a curve on the ramp. A passenger was thrown from the bike during the crash. Both the driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital and the driver was later life-flighted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Deputies said both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation.

PEOSTA, Iowa (KCRG) – A residence on Cedar Ridge Court in Peosta was destroyed in an early-morning fire Sunday, according to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said crews were dispatched around 3 a.m. Sunday to a structure fire in the ten thousand block of Cedar Ridge Ct. When responders arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, but the occupants were able to exit safely. Officials said the residence is considered a total loss, with an estimated $500,000 in damage. The cause of the fire in unknown but officials do not believe it to be suspicious is nature.

MARENGO, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa County Sheriff Robert A. Rotter has announced he is resigning from his position after more than 17 years in the role. Rotter was recently approved by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Iowa. Rotter said he plans to resign at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2. He said his current chief deputy, Todd Sauerbrei, will be sworn in as acting sheriff. Rotter wrote in a letter to the people of Iowa County that he began working for the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office in 1990, and called it an honor to have served the community. He also praised the staff of the sheriff’s office, describing them as dedicated and compassionate. Rotter said he will be present for the swearing-in ceremony and asked the public to show Sauerbrei the same support he has received during his time in office.
