ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Authorities have identified the driver who died Friday evening after an off-road vehicle rolled over and pinned him underneath in rural Allamakee County. The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office said a Can Am off-road vehicle was traveling southbound on Scott Hollow Road when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side, pinning the man underneath. The driver, 25-year-old Isaac Hanson of Luana, was the only occupant at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
FAIRFAX, Iowa (KCRG) – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said one person is injured after a crash in Fairfax Saturday night. Authorities responded to a report of a crash on Highway 151 (Williams Blvd.) and Prairie View Drive in Fairfax just after 6:45 Saturday night. Upon arrival, first responders found a Chevy Corvette had failed to stop at a stop sign at Prairie View Drive and collided with a Nissan Rogue in traffic on Highway 151. The driver of the Rogue was uninjured. The driver of the Corvetter, 72-year-old Terry Johnson of Fairfax, was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said Johnson will be charged with a stop sign violation at the conclusion of an operating while intoxicated investigation.
MUSCATINE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Two people were injured, one of which had to be airlifted to the hospital, after a late-night crash in Muscatine County. It happened just after 9:30p.m. Saturday. Someone driving a Toyota Tacoma truck was driving east on 155th street and failed to stop at a stop sign. Someone in a Kia Optima had been going north on Taylor Avenue at that time. The Tacoma hit the Optima when it went through the stop sign. The names of the drivers are not being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – A teenager is in critical condition after a shooting near the Pappajohn Sculpture Park late Friday night. Police were called to the area of 14th Street and Grand Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Friday after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire and said a person was down. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds on 14th Street just north of Grand Avenue, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department. Officers began lifesaving measures, including CPR, before Des Moines Fire Department EMS crews arrived and transported the victim to UnityPoint Health – Methodist Medical Center. Police said the male remains hospitalized in critical condition. Police say the 17-year-old was part of a group of people that committed an armed robbery of a 22-year-old man who was parked in his car. Investigators say the 17-year-old stole a handgun from the 22-year-old. The 22-year-old then grabbed a second handgun and shots were fired back and forth, which is when the 17-year-old was shot. Officers detained the 22-year-old shooter, but later released him without criminal charges. Police have not yet released the identities of those involved.
