A trial is now underway for a man charged with first degree murder in Black Hawk County. Investigators say Jacob Hamilton shot and killed Zachary Drinovsky in 2024. Hamilton claims he shot Drinovksy in self-defense. He says Drinovksy kicked in his door and dragged him outside. But investigators say there were no signs of forced entry. Hamilton also had no injuries consistent with a struggle.
A woman faces sentencing on vehicular homicide charges after her conviction for a crash that killed a semi-truck driver. Kaylynn Knight was found guilty of vehicular homicide. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says Jayesth Paul pulled over his semi to secure his load when Knight’s SUV–going more than 70 miles an hour–hit the semi and Paul, killing him. Cell phone data shows she was playing a game on her phone at the time. Her sentencing is set for June 29.
Police say a suspect is dead and one person is in the hospital after a stabbing in Clayton County. Officers responded to a home on the 200 block of South Page Street in Monona. They found someone outside the home with several stab wounds. The victim went to the hospital but there’s no word on their condition. Police say the suspect barricaded himself on the second floor of the home and wouldn’t come out. Officers eventually got inside where they found the suspect dead. Police say it appears he shot himself. They haven’t released his name.
The Field of Dreams in Dyersville is getting a $13 million boost in private and public investments. The funds will help complete the movie site’s professional ballpark and a year-round youth sports complex. The Breitbach family, the Butler family and the McCoy Group are donating $10 million to help develop the campus. Governor Kim Reynolds announced that state of Iowa is providing $3 million in “Destination Iowa” funds for the site. The gifts mean the site is nearly 80 percent to reaching the “Bring it Home” campaign’s more than $120 million goal. The campaign covers the cost to build the professional ballpark, a year-round baseball and softball complex and develop new educational opportunities.
