ROWLEY, Iowa (KCRG) – A 70-year old man was charged with attempted murder after hitting another person with a vehicle on Friday afternoon. Shortly after noon on Friday, Oct. 24, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of a vehicular accident with injuries in the 500 block of Oak Street. The report stated a vehicle had driven off the road and struck another person before hitting a garage. Sheriff’s Deputies and Emergency Personnel were immediately dispatched. After investigation of the incident, authorities arrested the driver of the car, 70-year old Leroy Gienau, and charged him with attempted murder. It was alleged that Gienau intentionally drove his vehicle towards the other individual and struck them before crashing into the garage. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the incident remains under investigation.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Two men were charged in connection to a fight near the University of Iowa campus earlier this month. On October 5, police responded to a report of a fight at 1:42 a.m. near the intersection of Madison Street and Jefferson Street in Iowa City. Officers learned two victims had argued with several men at a downtown bar before being chased and tackled outside. After further investigation, police charged 18-year-old Jace Nie, of Cedar Rapids, and 19-year-old Clifton West, of Marion, with participating in a riot and assault causing bodily injury. Police say both defendants repeatedly punched and spit on the victims. The victims suffered several abrasions to their head, neck, and knee.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – A driver was injured in a rollover crash in Cedar Falls on Friday afternoon. At approximately 1:55 p.m. Friday, Cedar Falls Public Safety responded to a rollover crash at Highway 58 and University Avenue. Authorities say two vehicles were involved, with one rolling on its side. The trapped driver’s airbags deployed, but authorities extricated them. The driver suffered minor injuries. No other information is known at this time.
AMES, Iowa (KCRG) – A Marshalltown man was charged in connection to the death of a child last year. On November 4, 2024, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a home in the 3600 block of Ontario Street in Ames. Upon arrival, first responders attempted life saving measures. The child was taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Authorities found several bruises on the child’s body. Police say an autopsy revealed fatal internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. The Ames Police Department announced Friday that 24-year-old Tyler Zeuthen, of Marshalltown, was charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death following a continued investigation.
