WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – One person has died and one person is hurt after a shooting Wednesday morning in Waterloo. Waterloo police officers say the shooting happened about 3:45 a.m. at 3127 Hammond Avenue. Officers found a man and a woman who had been shot. Both were taken to the hospital. The man died, and the woman is in critical condition. Waterloo police say there is no threat to the public and ask anyone with information on the shooting to call them.
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KCRG) – John Deere announced that some jobs at the Ottumwa and Des Moines plants would soon be relocated to other facilities in Iowa and Illinois. Deere says its product verification and validation testing from both Ottumwa Works and Des Moines will be moved to “reduce overhead expenses and improve efficiency.” It is unclear how many positions will be impacted at this time, but the company said some employees will have the option to relocate. The changes will take effect in fiscal year 2026. In September, John Deere also announced that 101 workers in Waterloo will be laid off, citing decreased demand and lower order volumes.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – One person was taken into custody following a police chase in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday. Iowa State Patrol Troopers ended a vehicle chase that started near Highway 100 and concluded near the intersection of Highway 30 and Kirkwood Blvd. SW on Wednesday afternoon. The individual left the vehicle several minutes after initially refusing. Police then took the individual into custody without incident. Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and other agencies responded to the incident. No other information is known at this time.
PARKERSBURG, Iowa (KCRG) – Parkersburg Police arrested a juvenile after guns were stolen out of cars. The family of the suspect discovered a stolen firearm in their home and contacted law enforcement. Police then discovered numerous items from car burglaries in the area. Parkersburg police said the suspect’s family is fully cooperating and asked for people to respect their privacy, adding there were never threats made towards any person or entity. Police said the post was made to “dispel rumors” but did not specify those rumors. The suspect’s name and identity are not public as required by Iowa law regarding juveniles charged with crimes.
