BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – An Iowa State Patrol officer was injured Friday night after a driver crashed into a patrol vehicle during a chase. Authorities say 24-year-old Cory Devries of Grundy Center led police on a vehicle pursuit from Grundy County into Black Hawk County. The chase came to an end when the suspect hit the Iowa State Patrol car in the 1800 block of Highway 63. The State Patrol officer, Joshua Meggers, was taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries. Meggers is also a State Representative. Devries was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A juvenile has been charged with traffic offences after causing a multi-vehicle crash in Linn County Friday night. Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of 80th Street and Williams Boulevard around 9 p.m. Friday. A juvenile driving a Ford Escape had failed to stop at a stop sign on 80th Street and hit a car driving on Williams Boulevard. The vehicle then crashed into a third vehicle. The juvenile was not hurt in the crash and was charged with traffic offenses. The person driving the second car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. That was the only occupant in that vehicle. The third car had two occupants. Both were uninjured. The crash partially closed the roadway for about an hour.

MORNING SUN, Iowa (KCRG) – Dry and windy condition in eastern Iowa can cause fires to start and spread quickly. As of Sunday morning, three counties are under a burn ban: Cedar, Clinton, and Scott. A cornfield caught fire Saturday around 1 p.m. near Morning Sun, which is in Louisa County. First responders arrived and found 40 acres of the field were on fire. It took about 45 minutes to control the fire. Firefighters believe an overheated piece of equipment from a combine sparked the fire. Louisa County does not currently have a burn ban.

FAIRFAX, Iowa (KCRG) – One person is dead and two others have been taken to the hospital after a house caught fire early Sunday morning in Fairfax. Authorities were called to the 200 block of Olson Court around 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a house fully engulfed in flames. First responders were told an elderly male had not escaped the house. The two homeowners escaped the house and were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. Two others in the house escaped unharmed. Fire crews found the elderly man who was killed in the fire. His name is not being released at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
