Three Cascade High School students have been charged in connection to fake naked photos of girls at the school. They’re accused of generating several students’ images using artificial intelligence. Law enforcement says the pictures were shared among students, but officials believe they did not spread beyond school circles. They say they’re taking precautionary steps to scrub any images that may have reached the internet. The Dubuque Country Attorney says charges more charges could be on the way for a fourth juvenile.
Today, the Iowa Board of Regents is expected to discuss university faculty who praised Charlie Kirk’s death. A Republican Iowa state lawmaker is calling for the removal of dozens of educators for their social media posts about the killing of Kirk. State Representative Taylor Collins of Mediapolis says there’s been a lack of punishment for educators posting about the death. He’s calling on the Board of Regents to fire those University employees.
Iowa Republican state senator Jack Whitver says he is stepping down as state senate majority leader and will not seek re-election next year. This comes after doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumor last year. He had been receiving radiation and drug therapy. Whitver has served in the Iowa Senate since 2011. He has served as majority leader in the chamber since 2018. Iowa Senate Republicans will need to select someone new to fill the position. It is not clear how soon that election will happen.
Cedar Rapids Schools kicked off a $35 million renovation plan at Harrison Elementary School. The historic school building was saved when the school board voted last year to renovate it instead of building a new school. The renovations are expected to take about two years to complete.
Union Community Schools moved some staff at Union High School in La Porte City to different parts of the building after the discovery of mold spores. Mold spores were found in multiple spaces, including the band and choir rooms and two classrooms. The district says the building’s HVAC systems are outdated and can’t properly regulate moisture levels, causing the issue.
