AMES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa State University (ISU) Police Department found “no credible threat” Monday after receiving reports of an active shooter on campus. According to a release from the ISU Police Department, officers responded to campus Monday morning after receiving multiple calls regarding an active shooter. Police confirmed the reports are false, and there is no threat. Police said the calls “appear to be similar to several anonymous and false ‘swatting calls’ at universities across the country,” prompting a large response from law enforcement. The ISU Police Department also said it will continue monitoring the situation in order to ensure the safety of staff and students.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Linn County officials approved the first reading of an ordinance that will help the process of bringing nuclear energy back to the area on Monday. Supervisors emphasized the county does not decide if the old Duane Arnold Nuclear Power plant will reopen. That’s decided by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or NRC. They set standards for the design, construction, and operation of nuclear facilities. But the first reading of the ordinance that was passed Monday does allow the county to have some oversight and allows regulations to be in place at a local level, including where a facility may be sited, how it fits into surrounding neighborhoods, and community impacts.

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) – An Independence man faces up to 40 years in prison for child pornography crimes. 23-year-old Jordan Million, of Independence, was charged with one count of receipt of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography. Court records say Million allegedly received child pornography on two cellular devices between April 2024 and December 2024. If convicted, Million faces up to 40 years in prison, a $750,000 fine, and a lifetime term of supervised release following any imprisonment.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged after allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Saturday night. Cody O’Hare was pulled over by police in Tiffin after he ran a stop sign, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. He was off duty at the time of the incident. Police identified the smell of alcohol coming from O’Hare. He was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense. O’Hare has served as a deputy for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for ten years. He is currently on administrative leave.
