WAVERLY, Iowa (KCRG) – Winnebago Industries will close two of its branches in eastern Iowa. On Wednesday, Iowa WARN posted online the closures would include their locations in Waverly and Charles City, and involves two dates later this year for those closures. On September 8, the branch in Waverly will close, with 77 people losing their jobs. On that same day, 18 people in Charles City will also be let go. Then on December 12, the Charles City branch will close, leaving another 26 people out of a job. In a statement to TV9, Winnebago says it’s working to streamline its operations, consolidating its facilities in Waverly and Charles City with operations in Forest City and Lake Mills, Iowa, campuses. “This consolidation allows Winnebago to streamline operations and focus on core manufacturing hubs in Forest City and Lake Mills, ensuring the long-term success and competitiveness of the Winnebago brand and while driving enhanced focus on innovation.”

IOWA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office is releasing details in what led up to a shooting that left a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, and her husband dead. On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office released the details involving the shooting that happened June 20 along the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 and Exit 225 east of Williamsburg. The Sheriff’s Office says 65-year-old David Morse was driving around 9 p.m. when he shot his wife with a handgun near the Johnson County, Iowa County line. The Sheriff’s Office says Morse then stopped the vehicle at the exit, in which he then shot himself. Morse died of his injuries. His wife survived the shooting with serious injuries. Before this, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said Morse and his wife were from Holt, Michigan. The Sheriff’s Office now considers the case resolved.

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A Johnson County deputy was involved in a vehicle collision with a semi on Tuesday. A vehicle collision with a semi occurred at 10:17 a.m. in the 1800 block of Highway 965 NW near North Liberty. A Johnson County patrol vehicle and a semi tractor were travelling southbound on Highway 965. The deputy driving the patrol vehicle saw a speeding vehicle that was northbound. The patrol vehicle pulled onto the southbound shoulder in attempt to catch the speeding vehicle. The deputy made a U-turn without turning on emergency lights. The semi-truck wasn’t able to slow down and hit the patrol vehicle on the rear driver side. The deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy was released hours later. The situation remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. No further information is known at this time.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – A Dubuque man is accused of leaving two children in a backyard after a car crash. Police say Corlandis Chester, 38, crashed a car near University and Irving on July 2, took two children from the car, and left them in the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Auburn Street. Officers arrived at the scene and found both children injured. Both children were taken to the hospital. One was treated for a skull fracture and bleeding. The child was flown to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The other child suffered a cut to the nose and was monitored at the hospital. One of the mothers told officers that she was watching the children when the accident happened. Chester has been charged with two counts of neglect or abandonment of dependent person, child endangerment with serious injury, child endangerment with bodily injury, leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, and driving while barred. He is set to be seen in court on July 17 at 10:50 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.
