CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The City of Cedar Rapids released a boil advisory for certain parts of the city regarding personal consumption of water. The city released multiple addresses throughout SE Cedar Rapids affected by the boil water advisory. A ruptured water main resulted in a loss of pressure. It can cause bacteria contaminated water sources. The city recommends affected residents follow additional steps to protect against potential contamination. Water in all other parts of Cedar Rapids is safe to consume.
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (KCRG) – Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accidental shooting along the river on Monday. 62-year-old Kevin Gouchee accidentally shot a 12-year-old boy in the back of his head through a row of bushes. He believed it was a groundhog after he saw movement in the bushes. Officers arrived to the scene and found the boy with a gunshot in the back of his head. He was conscious and breathing. According to the release, the boy was fishing alone along the river behind a row of bushes. The boy faced non-life-threatening injuries. Gouchee was charged for reckless use of a firearm but could face additional charges.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa City Animal Services received a report of a dog bite that occurred on Saturday. According to Iowa City Animal Services, the dog was reported as a yellow lab. The owner was walking the dog on a leash around 8:00 p.m. on July 5. The dog bit someone in the leg as they were passing by near Westside Drive. Animal Services are investigating to find out the rabies vaccination status of the dog. No other information is known at this time.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Linn County inmate failed to return to jail after a temporary release. Sandra Tanner, an inmate at the Linn County Correctional Center, did not return on Monday after being released on a court order. Tanner was supposed to return at 3:00 p.m. She is waiting on trial for two counts of forgery. She is currently serving on a contempt charge. No other information is known at this time.
