CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – One person was arrested after a traffic stop led to a road closure in Cedar Rapids Saturday night. Around 9:20 p.m., Cedar Rapids Police said officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Council Street Northeast and Golf View Drive Northeast. Authorities said the driver, Harry Nelson, was not cooperative and failed to exit the car and follow law enforcement orders on the scene. Council Street Northeast was closed to traffic while the situation was ongoing. Nelson was arrested and charged with interference with official acts.

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Muscatine Police Department is asking for the public’s help in gathering information after a shooting Saturday morning. On Saturday, June 21, someone called the Muscatine Police Department around 4 a.m. about a possible shooting that is believed to have happened near the intersection of Parham Street and Cedar Street. Police say the possible shooting incident may be connected to an attempted armed robbery where a man sustained a gunshot wound and drove himself to the 500 block of Cedar Street. That’s where he got help from the Muscatine Fire Department and was transported to an area hospital. Anyone with information about the possible shooting incident should contact the Muscatine Police Department. Callers can remain anonymous.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Police Chief is addressing staffing shortages that caused Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control to close earlier this year. In a Facebook post, Chief David Dostal said seven temporary, part-time positions have been filled or are in the process of being hired. He said this will restore consistent public shelter hours while maintaining quality levels of animal care. The post also said a cross-departmental city team is actively bringing in additional support. This allows staff from other departments to temporarily assist with shelter operations. The statement went on to say shelter operations will undergo a third-party review in the coming weeks.

WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa (KCRG) – One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a shooting in rural Williamsburg. The Iowa County Sheriff’s office said they received reports of a shooting at the Interstate 80 westbound on-ramp of exit 225 around 9:00 p.m. Friday. As a result of the shooting, authorities said one person died and another has serious gunshot injuries. Officials said more details on the shooting and names of the victims will be released on Monday, June 23.
