A judge has denied a lawsuit that challenged the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision to grant a gaming license to Linn County. That means the Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids has the green light to continue construction at its site near the Cedar River with the plan to open by the end of 2026. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation filed the lawsuit in February, saying the IRGC didn’t have the power to grant the license. It said the language on the ballot measure approved by Linn County voters was wrong. But a judge denied those claims. Riverside and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation have not issued a statement on the judge’s decision.

Cedar Rapids police say a construction worker died in an industrial accident. Officers responded to an area near the intersection of I-380 and Wright Brothers Boulevard at little after two yesterday afternoon. Police say the accident involved the worker walking around and working near a large piece of equipment. The accident was not on the road and did not impact traffic. The worker’s name isn’t being released at this time.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is now reporting at least six cases of measles in the state, including five in eastern Iowa. The three new cases are all among unvaccinated people. That includes one adult and two minors. Iowa HHS says they were exposed to the disease by someone living within the same household.

The Iowa State Fair Butter Cow will be featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum later this year. Fair leaders say a replica of the cow will be part of a year-long exhibit on state fairs. It involves 15 other states across the U.S. This year’s theme for the butter cow is Toy Story. Several characters from the Pixar classic will be featured alongside the cow to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary. You can see the butter cow on display at the Smithsonian from August 22-September 7.
