WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Three people are hurt after a shooting in Waterloo early New Year’s morning. Waterloo Police say officers were called to SAC’s Neighborhood Pub at 2000 Hawthorne Avenue just before 1 a.m. for a report that someone had been shot. When emergency crews arrived, they found three gunshot victims. Police say the victims were in a vehicle in a parking lot near the bar. One person was shot in the upper body, one person was shot in the mid-section and a third person was grazed on the face. The person who was grazed refused treatment and the other two victims went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – As the calendar turned over to the new year, several new laws were put in place in Iowa. Iowans will see a lower income tax rate starting yesterday. This is a new 3.8 percent flat tax rate for all taxpayers. This puts Iowa at the sixth-lowest income tax rate in the country. Also starting Wednesday, Iowa drivers will see a $10 increase for certain vehicle registrations and title applications. Other laws have to do with Iowans consumer data protection. The new law states consumers have rights to their personal data. The last of the new laws states that businesses that sell or deliver tobacco products must now have a permit to continue sales.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The man accused of an armed robbery at a Cedar Rapids Wendy’s will have his case go to trial in April. Police said Jamercion Bush, 34, of Cedar Rapids, robbed the Wendy’s on 1st Avenue NE while armed with a gun on Nov. 12, and then ran away from the scene. Police arrested Bush the next day. He was charged with First Degree Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, among other charges. A trial has been set for 9 a.m. on April 15, 2025, at the Linn County Courthouse. Bush was previously charged with attempted murder, domestic abuse and assaulting a police officer for a 2019 incident in which he stabbed his wife in the neck. In that incident, the woman went to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and Bush was taken into custody after trying to throw a rock at one police officer. Bush pleaded guilty to Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury and Going Armed With Intent, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for that incident.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – One person was taken to the hospital after a crash in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday. Police said it happened at around 4:38 p.m. at C Street and Bethpage Drive SW. Firefighters had to extract the driver of one of the vehicles. That driver was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. No additional details have been released.
