RIVERSIDE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa State Patrol has released the names of two drivers killed in a collision on Highway 218 during a police chase Sunday afternoon. Muscatine Police say the chase started at 3:15 p.m. with reports of a woman shooting at people. An officer tried to pull her over, but she refused to stop. A chase began and eventually reached Highway 218 two miles south of Riverside in Washington County. Police say that’s when the fleeing driver drove into on-coming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on. The driver police were chasing, 36-year-old Brittany Miles of Cedar Rapids, died on impact. The driver of the other vehicle, 27-year-old Olivia Alvarez, died after first responders tried life-saving measures. Muscatine Police say during the chase, one officer was injured when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed near the Cedar River. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. Muscatine Police say no one was injured in the shooting incidents in Muscatine.

DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office has identified an 18-year-old killed in a rollover accident early Saturday morning. The sheriff’s office says the crash happened at 12:05 a.m. on Highway 20 near Hartebecke Road. Investigators say a vehicle was traveling westbound when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll. A passenger, 18-year-old Brayden Domeyer of Holly Cross died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were taken to the hospital for serious and minor injuries.

AMES, Iowa (KCRG) – An Iowa State University football player was arrested early Sunday morning for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. According to the Des Moines Register, running back Jaylon Jackson was arrested at 2:38 a.m. at 618 South 17th Street on Sunday. This is Jackson’s first OWI arrest. This year, Jackson recorded 388 yards and two touchdowns on 93 total carries. He also has seven receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown. During Saturday’s Big 12 championship loss to Arizona State, Jackson recorded 15 yards in four carries. In a statement, an Iowa State University football spokesperson said “We are aware of the situation and have no further comment at this time.” Iowa State will take on Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on December 28 in Orlando, Florida.

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Linn County Sheriff’s Department says a car accident led to power outages in several communities late Saturday night. The Sheriff’s department says a white minivan was traveling north on Troy Mills Road just before 10 p.m. when the driver, 40-year-old Jillian Whitaker of Coggon, fell asleep at the wheel. The driver wasn’t able to traverse a curve in the road and the vehicle left the roadway northbound into an Alliant Energy power pole before rolling over and coming to a stop. The driver and passenger, 41-year old Gregory Whitaker of Coggon, were taken to St. Luke’s hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts, and the driver was cited for failure to maintain control.
