The Linn County Sheriff says a man accused of a triple murder may have committed the crime for the possibility it would be made into a movie. Deputies arrested 34-year-old Luke Truesdell of Marion after responders found 3 people dead and one critically hurt Wednesday afternoon at a home on East Otter Road. Sheriff’s deputies say 44-year-old Romondus Cooper, 26-year-old Keonna Ryan, and 33-year-old Amanda Parker died at the scene. The last report is that 34-year-old Brent Brown is hospitalized in critical condition.
A Washington, Iowa teenager has been arrested in connection with a shooting that happened last week. Mitchell Martinez is charged with attempted murder and several other charges. Police officers say he shot someone in the stomach. The victim is expected to survive.
First responders in Ottumwa have found the body of a missing man, last seen in the Des Moines River over the weekend. The Wapello County Sheriff’s office say crews found Skiller Amo’s body just before 1 yesterday afternoon. He was reportedly swimming with a group of people near the Highway 34 overpass bridge on Sunday. His body was found near the Ottumwa Water Pollution facility.
Governor Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Dubuque and Emmet counties after severe weather earlier this week. In Dubuque, high winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding hit. Crews responded to downed power lines and trees, and displaced manhole covers. The proclamation opens up state resources to help people with recovery and repairs.
A Cedar Rapids woman accused of taking more than $10,000 from Madison Elementary School received a deferred judgment and probation. In April, Nicole Blevins took an Alford Plea to second degree theft charges. An Alford plea means she doesn’t admit guilt but knows there is enough evidence to convict. The theft occurred from January 2022 to April of last year.
The Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Fish Refuge is celebrating 100 years today. In 1924, after the Izaak Walton League of America advocated for the protection of wildlife along the Mississippi River, President Calvin Coolidge signed the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge Act. The Refuge spans more than 200 miles conserving about 250,000 acres of land from Minnesota and Wisconsin, down through Illinois and Iowa.
