From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

There was slight damage and a couple of power outages after severe weather swept through eastern Iowa Tuesday. More than 1,800 power customers in the Iowa City area were without power at the height of the storm yesterday afternoon. A few high profile trucks were also knocked off the road after gusts of up to 65 miles per hour were reported from the storm.

The National Weather Service says its Cedar Rapids-based Weather Radio alert system could be off the air for another one to three weeks. The weather radio transmitter in Cedar Rapids that services parts of Linn and Johnson Counties has been out of service since Saturday. The weather service believes that water from heavy rain events was getting into cabling and the antenna itself.

The Iowa Environmental Protection Commission won’t adopt stricter rules for concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFO’s. The environmental group Iowa Environmental Council is filing an emergency request for the EPA to step in to protect the enforcement it says will better protect the state’s drinking water. The group says people living in Northeast Iowa are being exposed to high levels of nitrates in their water. Any EPA action may not be taken for at least three months from now.

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy is revoking the license of an Iowa pharmacy technician. Sarah Elizabeth Taylor pleaded guilty to stealing 600 doses of opioid painkillers. Police records say a CVS store in Council Bluffs reported prescription drug theft in April 2023. The pharmacy says it is missing 700 doses of the painkiller Tramadol. Taylor admitted she would place the pills in the garbage and retrieve them later. She pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, and fourth degree theft. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail, with all of that time suspended.

And the Caitlin Clark effect continues across the nation. Google Trends Data from the last 3 months tracked the search interest for NBA and WNBA players. Clark dominates in 36 states. And according to Fanatics sports apparel web site, Clark jerseys sold out of nearly all sizes in less than an hour on Monday night after she was selected as the #1 pick in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever.
