Iowa women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark announces she’ll enter the WNBA draft. Clark, who is on the verge of becoming the all-time NCAA scoring leader in college basketball, announced yesterday she will leave the Hawkeyes after this season and enter the WNBA Draft. Clark made the announcement on X. She announced that it’s impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported her during her time at Iowa. Clark thanked her family and fans for making her dreams come true. Clark broke Lynette Woodard’s record Wednesday night when she scored 33 points in the blowout win against Minnesota. She’s now scored the most points in women’s college basketball history. On Sunday, she needs 18 points to surpass Pete Maravich to become the all-time scoring leader in NCAA women’s and men’s basketball.
Tyler Dazey is not competent to stand trial in the murder of his mother. That was the decision in a Dubuque County courtroom and Dazey’s response was to shout expletives at the judge and his attorney. He’s charged with murdering his mother and her dog back in January. The doctor who evaluated Dazey said in the evaluation report that while Dazey clearly understands the legal process, he is not competent enough to act in his own self-interest. The report also argued that he is unable to assist his attorneys in his defense. As for the next steps, the judge stated that Dazey is to undergo another evaluation conducted by the state.
Governor Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation to help speed up repairs of the bridge in Lansing connecting Iowa to Wisconsin. The Iowa DOT shut down that bridge over the Mississippi River last week because of structural concerns. Initially, the Iowa DOT said it would take two years to reopen. They updated that this week to two months. The disaster proclamation opens up federal funding to help with those repairs.
State lawmakers are moving ahead with reforms on the state’s Area Education Agency reforms. Thursday afternoon, lawmakers in the Iowa House passed a compromise plan to implement a mix of local and state oversight. It also caps AEA administrator salaries so that they can’t make more than superintendents in their area.
