CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – 90-year-old U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa has been hospitalized for an infection, his staff announced on Tuesday. Grassley is Iowa’s most senior senator, having held his position since 1981. In a statement, his office stated that “Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection. He is in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors’ orders.”

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Investigators with the FBI and Cedar Rapids Police have identified Andrew Derr as the suspect in the armed robbery that took place at Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust on Jan. 3, 2024. Derr is a 21-year-old white male who is 5′11″ and weighs approximately 160 pounds. Officials say he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the US Marshals’ Service at 319-362-4411.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa Board of Regents President Mike Richards announced on Tuesday that he is stepping down as President of the Board of Regents. “Serving as a member of the Board has been a true honor and privilege,” Richards said. “I want to publicly thank Governor Reynolds and Governor Branstad who gave me the opportunity to serve in this important role. I also want to thank all the Regents that I have served with, as well as the university presidents, and Board and university staff members that I have had the pleasure of working alongside,” said Richards. Richards was appointed to the Board in 2016 by Governor Branstad. He was then re-appointed in 2021 by Governor Reynolds. Richards was elected as Board President in 2017 and has served in that capacity ever since. President Pro Tem Sherry Bates will become the interim Board President until a new leadership election is held at a future Board meeting. Richards will remain as a Board member until April 30th, 2024, at which time he will resign his seat.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Police have identified the victim that was found dead in a Waterloo home Monday. Police said 19-year-old Joseph Quail, of Waterloo, was found dead with a gunshot wound in a home in the 200 block of Eighmey just before 5 a.m. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
