MONONA, Iowa (KCRG) – A cattle farm is hoping to get DNR approval for a plan near a popular trout creek. Two years ago, the Iowa DNR granted approval to Supreme Beef in Monona for a new confinement for about 12,000 animals near Bloody Run Creek. A few months later, a conservation group sued the DNR, saying it violated its own rules when approving nutrient management plans. The owners of Supreme Beef want to spread manure on fields in the stream’s watershed. People from both sides of this issue spoke at Monday’s online public meeting. That includes neighbors who say the farm is fine on the land, and people who say the DNR should take another look at the numbers when it comes to how much manure can be applied to field. The meeting was held to hear comments on Supreme Beef’s Nutrient Management Plan. This comes after years of discussions over the farm’s impact on the nearby trout creek, Bloody Run.
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) – One person was hurt and refused treatment after a fire at a mobile home in North Liberty Monday afternoon. It happened at Golfview Court. Officials say it started in a bedroom and spread to other parts of the home. One pet was removed. Investigators believe at this time the fire was accidental and not intentionally set.
ADEL, Iowa (KCRG) — Former President Donald Trump on Monday rallied caucus-goers in Iowa’s rural Dallas County, where he received the endorsement of the state’s attorney general and predicted a landslide victory three months before voting begins in the GOP contest’s kickoff state. Trump, the early GOP front-runner, has stepped up his caucus campaigning this fall as his team tries to lock in support to not only avoid a repeat of his 2016 second-place finish but to win an overwhelming victory that would deny momentum to whoever finishes in second place. Brenna Bird, Iowa’s Republican attorney general, served previously as former Iowa Rep. Steve King’s chief of staff and last year beat Democrat Tom Miller for the state’s top legal post.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) – One of the four teens charged with murder after a deadly shooting in northwest Cedar Rapids earlier this year will not get his case moved to juvenile court. New filings show the judge has ruled Tramontez Lockett will still be tried as an adult. According to court documents, the judge said the juvenile system did not have adequate resources to properly rehabilitate the teen, and that Lockett will soon turn 18 anyway. The 17-year-old is accused of stealing the car used in the murder of Michael McCune at the Tan Tara Apartments back in February. Lockett is also accused of starting conversations with McCune on Snapchat that eventually led up to the shooting. His trial is scheduled for January. One other teen has already pleaded guilty in the case. Two others, Dante Irvin and Baynon Berry, are also set to go to trial later this winter.
