A Cedar Rapids teenager was sentenced to 25 years in prison yesterday. 19-year-old Zawadi Christophe was charged in two separate crimes, a fatal car crash from October 2022 and a shooting in July 2022. Investigators say Christophe was driving out of control on First Avenue Southwest about a year ago. They say he rear-ended a vehicle, which pushed it into on-coming traffic. 77-year-old Judy Hoover died. No one was injured in the shooting.

A Cedar Rapids man is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with a shooting that happened last month. Police say 21-year-old Dewayne Hunt shot a 41-year-old woman in the legs near Pioneer Avenue and 31st Street Southeast. The woman is expected to survive.

The funeral for Algona Officer Kevin Cram will be held this morning. Cram died almost a week ago when police say a man wanted on an outstanding warrant shot and killed him. 43-year-old Kyle Ricke faces a first degree murder charge after being arrested in Minnesota hours after the shooting. Officer Cram was 33 years old, a husband, and father to three young sons.

Court documents show a former Iowa basketball player is pleading guilty in connection with a statewide sports gambling investigation. Investigators say Ahron Ulis placed more than 1,800 bets including at least one on an Iowa game. He was charged with records tampering for changing his identity while placing bets. Court records show he pleaded guilty to underage gambling to have the tampering charges dropped. He will now have to pay a $645 fine. Ulis transferred to Nebraska last spring.

Former President Donald Trump will be in eastern Iowa today. He’ll make his first stop at 1 this afternoon in Maquoketa at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Then, he’ll head to Dubuque for an event at 3 at the Grand River Center. Doors open there at noon.
