From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is appealing a judge’s decision that allowed election officials to offer non-English voting materials. Back in June, the Polk County District Court Dodge ruled that Iowa counties may provide citizens with non-English ballots, voter registration forms, and absentee ballot applications. That decision removed an injunction that blocked the practice since 2008. Bird says her appeal is about protecting election integrity, but the chair of the Iowa Unity Coalition says she’s being a barrier to election access.

The Linn County Board of Supervisors passed its first of three public readings regarding the proposed ordinance changes for large-scale solar projects. Some are worried about noise issues as well as proximity to homes. Some supporters say utility-scale solar farms would bring more green energy to Cedar Rapids in addition to creating new jobs. Two more public meetings are set for each of the next two weeks.

There are just a few days left to weigh in on the hiring of the next Cedar Rapids Police Chief. Former Police Chief Wayne Jerman retired in April after aging out of his police certification. The city is seeking input from residents with an on-line survey looking for the qualities people want to see in a new chief. The City’s survey is available through Sunday on the Cedar Rapids city web site.

A couple of closures in Iowa City are now in place. Mercer Park’s pool and gym are closed for two weeks through Friday, September 15. This is so sidewalk, driveway, and entryway repairs can take place. And the pedestrian tunnel under Iowa Avenue is closed until further notice. The city says it needs to make repairs due to safety concerns.

The Cyclones and Hawkeyes will clash at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Saturday. This comes after ticket issues led to long lines at the stadium on Saturday when the Cyclones beat the UNI Panthers. Three Republican presidential candidates will be at the Cy-Hawk game this Saturday. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former President Donald Trump will each make appearances at Jack Trice Stadium.
