CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Cedar Falls resident is getting help from the Red Cross after a fire broke out inside a home Saturday evening. Firefighters were called just before 7 p.m. to a home on the 2200 block of Lincoln Street, where they found flames coming out of a bedroom window. Crews moved fast to put out the fire before it could move to the rest of the house. No one was hurt, but the home was left with fire, smoke, and water damage. The person living there cannot stay in the home for now and is receiving help from the Red Cross. Investigators are still working to figure out what started the fire.
WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – State corrections officials are asking for the public’s help locating a man who failed to return to a work release facility in Waterloo over the weekend. According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, 31-year-old Troy Davis Jr. failed to return to the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility as scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 12. Davis is serving time for intimidation with a dangerous weapon in Black Hawk County. He was admitted to the work release facility on May 28. Davis is described as a black male, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 172 pounds. Anyone with information regarding Davis’ whereabouts is urged to contact local law enforcement immediately.
BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The driver of a Harley Davidson trike has been flown to the hospital after an accident Friday evening. Emergency officials were called around 8:40 p.m. about a crash near Highway 63. On site, investigators confirmed the trike had crashed into a Chevy Impala. The Impala was headed turning onto Highway 63’s northbound roadway from Cedar Wapsi Road. After turning, the trike struck the back of the Impala. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the Impala was uninjured, but the driver of the trike was airlifted to UIHC with life threatening injuries. The drivers have not been identified. As of Saturday morning, nobody has been given fault.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC/KCRG) – A Davenport man was arrested on Wednesday for sexual abuse charges stemming from incidents between 2011 and 2013. According to court documents, 42-year-old Zachariah T. Rhodes, was arrested subsequent to an investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor. Court documents show the investigation into the abuse began in 2024, although the incidents of sexual abuse happened in 2011 and 2013. Police reported they found that Rhodes sexually abused a child under the age of 12 multiple times. He is charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the 2nd degree. Rhodes is being held on a $25,000 cash bond in the Scott County Jail.
