IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A financial investor in Mercy Iowa City announced on Monday its desire for the community hospital to be placed on a court-appointed receivership after the hospital received notice that it defaulted on its bond agreement. In a message sent to hospital employees and staff on July 21st, the hospital stated that it received notice that its bondholder considers the hospital in default on its bond agreements. Mercy Iowa City disputes the claim, stating that they have made all of the payments on the bond as required. Financial investor in the hospital, Preston Hollow Community Capital, responded to the report of the bond default on Monday. They request that Mercy Iowa City be placed in a court-appointed receivership in order to “stabilize itself” from unsustainable financial losses.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A woman from Iowa City has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a home and holding a person at gunpoint. According to investigators, on July 21st, at 1:20 a.m., Nicole Marie Ambrose made a hole in the screen of the front door of a home in the 200 block of Holiday Lodge. She then unlocked the front door and went inside. Ambrose then allegedly woke up the owner in bed by pressing a gun to the person’s side. Ambrose took the victim’s phone so she could not call police. She then held the victim captive at gunpoint till approximately 4:45 a.m. Police say the victim was able to convince Ambrose into leaving. Ambrose allegedly stated to the victim that she was going to kill herself and needed the gun as part of her plan. Ambrose then left the home and fled on foot. After being notified of the incident, officials located Ambrose at approximately 5:57 a.m. She had in her possession a loaded gun, marijuana, and a drug pipe.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Three more people have been charged in connection to a riot that happened in Iowa City in the early morning hours of July 4. Police said the incident happened in the 2600 block of Westwinds Drive in Iowa City at around 1 a.m. Criminal complaints say Andre Williams, 24, of Iowa City, Chantel Simmons, 29, of Coralville, and Devwon Bledsoe, 37, of Coralville, were charged with participation in a riot for the incident. Police said video surveillance shows the three people in a group of 10 to 15 people participating in the incident. Additionally, Williams and Bledsoe also face assault charges. Williams was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for having 20 grams of marijuana on him at the time. Two other people, Emma Backen, 20, of Tama, and Eric Fredieu, 21, of Iowa City, were charged last week for their participation in the incident. During the incident, a man was shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Police have not released information about additional suspects in this case.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Police said a man has been charged in connection with a July 2 shooting on Highway 218 in Johnson County. Iowa City police said first responders were called to the area of Mile Marker 93 on southbound Highway 218 for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. In an update on this case on Monday, police said Lamont’e O’Neal, 20, of Cedar Rapids, has been charged in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement said O’Neal is currently in custody in Cook County, Illinois on unrelated charges, but he is expected to be extradited to Johnson County to face the charges in this case at a later date.
