CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Cedar Rapids family was displaced Tuesday afternoon after a grill caught fire in their backyard and spread to their house. The Cedar Rapids Fire Department said firefighters responded to the fire in the 600 block of Moose Drive Northwest around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters said a propane tank ruptured, causing the fire to spread to the deck, the back of the house, and the attic, causing significant damage. One adult and two kids were home at the time of the fire, but no one was hurt.

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC/KCRG) – A near-disaster was avoided when a power line came crashing down before the City of Bettendorf’s fireworks celebration Tuesday evening. TV6 was on-scene at the time of the incident and saw the power line come crashing down in the middle of a busy section of the festival near vendors and attendees. Police were on-scene at the time of the incident and said that no one was hurt. However, the area did have to be cleared for the public’s safety and caution tape was put in place.

CLINTON, Iowa (KCRG) – The man suspected in the separate shootings of two individuals in Clinton has been shot and killed by Illinois State Police. Officials say that on July 3rd at approximately 7:47 pm, officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit of 39-year-old Randy Allen Jackson after locating his vehicle in the Vermilion and Champaign county area. Officers say they momentarily lost sight of Jackson’s vehicle, but relocated him again in the area of 2200 County Road 2250 East where he was found in a detached garage. Jackson reportedly engaged in a standoff with Illinois State Police. SWAT and Crisis Negoitaiton team members were called to the location. Officials say that Jackson refused to comply and an Illinois State Police trooper discharged their firearm. Jackson was struck and taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No officials were struck or injured during the incident. Investigators say that evidence collected at both crime scenes connected Jackson to the two Clinton shootings that occurred approximately 24 hours earlier. An investigation into Jackson’s killing is underway. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Police say a man was shot multiple times in the early hours of July 4 in Iowa City. In a news release, Iowa City Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2600 block of Westwinds Drive, near the intersection with Mormon Trek Boulevard. Officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. Police did not release any other details of the shooting except to say officers are still investigating. Police also asked anyone with information or security camera footage to contact them.
