The Iowa Board of Regents unanimously approved a 3.5 percent tuition hike for the state’s public universities yesterday. That includes the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa. So what will these tuition increases cost students? For students at Iowa, it will cost an extra $305; Iowa State will see an increase of $304; and Northern Iowa students will pay $285 more. The increase goes into effect during the upcoming fall semester. While Regents say it will help strengthen campus programs, several students voiced opposition, saying they’re already struggling with the current rates.

A man faces additional charges related to a stabbing case out of Dubuque. 26-year-old Dayron Guzman now faces a willful injury causing serious injury charge, as well as the charge of going armed with intent. Guzman is already facing an attempted murder charge. It all comes after a stabbing at an apartment complex in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Green Street June 1 where a victim survived multiple stab wounds.

Iowa is trying to prevent illegal dumping of wastewater…and it’s impacting RV users. The state has closed and cemented over all of its RV dump stations that existed at rest areas along Iowa roadways. Iowa’s Department of Transportation also blames high maintenance costs and municipal water districts that asked to remove them as they connect to sewer and water systems.

Cedar Rapids police are looking for the owner of a dog found severely neglected near a city park. The dog, named Amari, was found wrapped in a blanket near Bever Creek park, suffering from heat exposure, heart failure, and other conditions. Police are looking for tips because there’s evidence suggesting she may have come from a situation where other animals may be suffering.
