NEW HAMPTON, Iowa (KCRG) – A 52-year-old Cresco man drowned at Airport Lake Park in New Hampton on Monday, the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office said. In a press release, the sheriff’s office said first responders were called to the park, at 2047 190th Street, at about 1:40 p.m. for a report of someone drowning. Divers from Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue recovered the body of Alvaro Valdivia Barranco just before 6 p.m. The Chickasaw County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be consistent with a fresh water drowning. The State Medical Examiner will conduct a full autopsy. The sheriff’s office said foul play is not suspected, and the death has been ruled accidental.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds Monday issued a disaster proclamation for Scott County in response to the partial collapse of an apartment building in downtown Davenport Sunday. The governor’s proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Management Program for residents impacted by the collapse, according to a media release. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants of up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level. Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses, according to the release. Impacted residents can apply on the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services website. There is no income eligibility requirement for the program and closes 180 days from the date of the governor’s proclamation. State officials also deployed Iowa Task Force 1, the state’s Urban Search and Rescue Team, to assist in search and rescue efforts, according to the release.

PRAIRIEBURG, Iowa (KCRG) – Firefighters responded to a barn fire in Prairieburg Monday morning. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said it happened in the 5600 block of Prairieburg Road at about 9:30 a.m. The owners of the barn called first responders after noticing smoke coming from the barn. When first responders arrived, they said they found the barn fully engulfed in smoke and flames. The barn is a total loss, but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures. No one was injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials said it was not suspicious in nature.

COGGON, Iowa (KCRG) – A man was injured in an ATV crash in Linn County on Sunday night. Crews responded to Sutton Road, just north of the Wapsipinicon River, at around 8:15 p.m. Two 18-year-olds had been driving the ATV when one of them fell off the back. He was taken to a nearby hospital for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. Law enforcement said neither rider was wearing a helmet.
