DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – On Monday, Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for 10 counties due to flooding. Reynolds cited 10 counties that received damage from flooding including Allamakee, Clayton, Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Jackson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, and Scott counties. She also instructed the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to activate the State Emergency Operations Center in order to coordinate the state’s response activities.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – On April 22nd, 2023, officials found a man’s body, believed to be 20-year-old Cristian Martinez. The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office has now confirmed that finding. Martinez had been reported missing after he was last seen in downtown Iowa City around 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 15. His body was located in the Iowa River near Napoleon Park on the city’s south side. A public report led to officials searching the area, where they located the body in the water. Officials have not released a cause of death pending further investigation and results from an autopsy.

PEOSTA, Iowa (KCRG) – An Illinois 23-year-old is in the hospital in critical condition after a crash in Dubuque County. In a press release, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at about 6 p.m. on April 17 in the area of Highway 151 and Larkin Road. An Illinois man was driving northbound on Highway 151, hauling farm equipment, when the 23-year-old rear ended the farm equipment. The 23-year-old was airlifted to the hospital in Iowa City. Both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash and had to be towed. A John Deere E1000 field finisher that was being hauled was totaled.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — No one is hurt after an early morning fire in Marshalltown on Monday. A 911 caller reported the fire around 4:50 am in the 700 block of South 3rd Avenue. When crews arrived on the scene they found fire coming from the roof of the building. They quickly extinguished the fire and remained on scene for an hour to cool hotspots. Marshalltown FD says the fire originated in the roof around the chimney pipe of a wood burning furnace.
