OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KCRG) – Officials with the Oskaloosa Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are seeking help from the public in locating a 22-year-old. On April 4th, 2023 at approximately 10:16 pm, police were dispatched to the 700 block of D Avenue West for a report of a shooting. Responding officers found an adult male victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a Des Moines area hospital for treatment. As a result of the investigation, officials are seeking Gavin Jones on the charge of Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury for his involvement in the shooting. Jones is a white male, 6′ 3″ tall, weighs 180 pounds and has brown hair. Police say he may be traveling in a stolen silver 2019 Toyota Corolla with Iowa license plate KYP677. He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Oskaloosa Police Department at 641-672-2557.
FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally beating his ex-girlfriend’s mother with a golf club. 31-year-old Mark David Russell, of Fort Dodge, will not be eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Monday. Jurors found him guilty in February of first-degree murder in the 2020 killing of 45-year-old Angela Mcleod. In addition to the life sentence, Russell was ordered to pay $150,000 to Mcleod’s family and have no contact with them for at least five years.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa lottery officials say someone bought a winning $40 million Lotto America ticket in Dubuque on Saturday. The ticket was sold at Eichman’s a restaurant and convenience store. The winner could claim a $40.03 million annuity or a $21.28 million cash option. That was a record jackpot for the lottery game, with the previous high being $22.82 million in March 2018. The winning numbers were: 2-38-43-46-51 and Star Ball 7. Eichman’s will receive $5,000 for selling the winning ticket.
BOONE, Iowa (KCRG) – A former Boone County Deputy is now charged with killing his own police dog. This happened last September. According to a search warrant, Dallas Wingate said he put his K-9 officer in his department truck on September 2nd. He said he discovered Bear the dog dead about 22 hours later. Wingate resigned days later after being put on leave. According to the Boone County Sheriff, he was told to turn himself in Tuesday. He is charged with killing a police dog, which is a felony in Iowa.
