Republican Governor Kim Reynolds is speaking out against the indictment of Donald Trump. In an unprecedented move, a Manhattan grand jury has indicted the former President on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. In a statement, Governor Reynolds said, “While New York faces an open season for crime, the Manhattan DA is focused on arresting a former president. This is what an assault on democracy looks like – using government power to go after your political opponents.”

Severe weather is expected to sweep through eastern Iowa late this afternoon bringing with it strong winds. The National Weather Service says the storms will be fast moving and carry with them winds of more than 50 miles per hour between two this afternoon and eight tonight.

New court documents are giving us a better idea of what led to a fatal shooting inside a bar in Marion. The shooting at Cocktails and Company killed 32-year-old Cameron Barnes on Saint Patrick’s Day. A criminal complaint claims Walker and Barnes were in a verbal argument that night. Investigators say that escalated, when Walker punched Barnes and then charged at Barnes and then shot him once…killing him.

Cedar Rapids police arrested a man they say shot two people at an apartment complex. The shooting happened on Oakland Road Northeast last week. Both victims are recovering. 29-year-old David Abrams is charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery, and Burglary charges.

Three police organizations have gone on record opposing plans to allow a civilian to lead the Cedar Rapids Police Department. Current Chief Wayne Jerman remains on paid leave after he turned 66 and aged out of his police certification. Now, the Cedar Rapids Police Bargaining Union, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Cedar Rapids Bars and Stripes Association say they oppose the move, saying the city should not have anything other than a certified peace officer as the leader of the department.
