Cedar Rapids Police have not yet made an arrest, but have identified the man killed in a shooting on the city’s southwest side. Police found 22-year-old Mohamed Tawfik with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near the 55-hundred block of Kirkwood Boulevard. He was unresponsive when they arrived, and he died at the hospital. Police are looking for citizen tips as they investigate.

That’s the second homicide in Cedar Rapids just this year. 29-year-old Devonna Walker died in a stabbing at Cambridge Townhomes last week. Officers detained two people following the stabbing, but let them go. Police have not made any arrests since.

Iowa’s legislature is now in session and the Speaker of the Iowa House says you can expect this session to be bold. In his address to lawmakers, Republican Pat Grassley said his colleagues are crafting creative solutions to the issues that have plagued the state for years. Republican priorities include the school voucher program Governor Reynolds introduced last year and abortion restrictions following the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Republicans now have a super majority in the state Senate and increased their majority in the House. Gov. Reynolds will address lawmakers tonight with her Condition of the State address.

The Iowa DOT says an eastern Iowa man was one of the two people killed in Sunday morning’s crash in Iowa City that shutdown Interstate 80 for hours. One of the drivers was 57-year-old David Mosinkski of Fairfield. The other was a 37-year-old man from Houston, Texas. More than a dozen vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred on pavement the DOT says was 100 percent icy at the time.

Farmers can now diagnose and repair their broken-down John Deere ag equipment on their own. The company made the announcement Monday, after years of lawsuits and complaints from customers. The change means farmers can use parts and facilities that aren’t specifically from John Deere to fix their equipment.
