Iowa’s Congressional delegation is holding strong in its support of Representative Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House. The House will re-convene at 11 this morning after three days and 11 ballots failed to elect a new Speaker of the House. All four Iowa Republicans have supported McCarthy in each round. Second District Representative-Elect Ashley Hinson says she’ll continue to support McCarthy on every vote, saying, “He’s the right person to unite us behind the agenda.”

A Cedar Rapids man is facing charges this morning after a stabbing near B Avenue Northeast and 29th street north east Thursday morning. 33-year-old Michael Chevalier faces four charges including attempted murder. As of now the motive for the stabbing is unclear. This is the second stabbing in the city this week.

Anamosa Police are warning people of an accidental Fentanyl exposure. Police say they received a report of a person who came into contact with an unknown substance folded in a $1 bill. Police responded and determined it was Fentanyl inside the money. They say people should take caution when handling folded money, or other unknown items on the ground.

The State Medical Examiner has identified the body of a man whose remains were found last week in the Cedar River. Hunters found the body of Erik Spaw near the Water Treatment Plant last Friday. He disappeared back on May 7th while he was working for the city of Cedar Rapids Water Department. He had been driving between work sites. Later that day the truck was found in the Cedar River near the Edgewood Road Bridge. Spaw’s family says they believe his type 1 diabetes may have been the cause of his crash into the river.

An assisted living facility in Cedar Rapids helped a World War II veteran celebrate his 102nd birthday. Jack Walters’ actual birthday is this weekend, but he was honored among friends and family for his World War II military service. His friends say he looks ‘pretty good for a young guy.’
