CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids police said one person was taken to the hospital Monday night after a “weapons incident” at Cambridge townhomes in Northeast Cedar Rapids. It happened around 6:45 Monday night. Police have not released any other information at this time.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Some ‘Missing Iowan persons’ photographs are still not posted on the state’s database, despite new legislature that allows the missing person’s driver’s license to be used. As a result of the change, police agencies can now use driver’s license photos to ensure there is an image of the missing person available. Ankeny police even recently used a driver’s license photo of a missing elderly man to quickly get an image out to the public. That man was found just days later. However, there are still more than 300 people with missing photos on the registry.
DES MOINES, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) – Des Moines police and fire department rescue personnel responded to a shooting in progress on MLK Jr. Parkway after receiving multiple reports. Around 1 p.m. Sunday, officers and emergency response crews arrived and found Jaquez Alonzo Allen, 18, with critical gunshot injury. Police say medics began life-saving measures and transported Allen to the hospital while officers remained on scene. Shortly after arriving on scene, officers were dispatched to Broadlawns Medical Center after a person with gunshot injury transported themselves. Police say they determined the individual was involved in the same shooting. A third person with gunshot injury was found at the scene by officers and was transported to the hospital. Multiple firearms were recovered by officers at the scene. Police say Allen died from his injuries Sunday night, making this the first homicide of 2023. Of the two adult males injured in the shooting, one remains hospitalized in serious condition. Police say the other adult male was treated and released from the hospital. Detectives say evidence from the shooting suggests a dispute preceded the shooting, and a handgun was fired in self-defense.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The end of 2022 was met with disappointment for the Iowa State Patrol. Once again, more than 300 people died on Iowa roads over the course of the year. State leaders had hoped to keep fatalities under 300 last year, but 338 people died. That is down slightly from 2021. Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla said the crashes happened for a variety of reasons, including wrong-way drivers, distracted driving, and drunk driving. He said 45 percent of people killed were not wearing a seatbelt.
